Your Complete Checklist To The Civil Engineering Licensure Exam

2022-03-10

After five grueling years in engineering school, here you are… finally! You're going up the graduation stage to get your diploma. This is it, right? But wait, you still have to take and pass the Civil Engineering Licensure Exam before officially working as a licensed civil engineer.

Don't worry, if you're one of the many aspiring engineers out there, you’ll get there! For now, here's a quick run through of the things you need to know about the Civil Licensure Exam in the Philippines.

What is the Civil Engineering Licensure Exam?

The Philippine Civil Engineering Licensure Exam (or Philippine Civil Engineering Board Examination) is the professional licensure examination for incoming civil engineers in the country managed by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Who can take the Civil Engineering Licensure Exam?

According to the Republic Act No. 544 o Civil Engineering Law, ang mga aspiring civil engineers na nais kumuha ng Civil Engineering Licensure Exam ay kinakailangang:

  • At least twenty-one years of age
  • A Filipino citizen
  • Has a good moral character
  • A graduate of a four-year course in civil engineering from a recognized school

What are the subjects covered in the Civil Engineering Licensure Exam?

The Civil Engineering Licensure exam is one of the hardest board exams consisting of four main engineering subjects, with a long list of subtopics under each subject. No matter how good you studied in college, the CE board preparation is not something you can accomplish overnight. Some civil engineering students start taking review classes as early as their last semester in time to take the exam right after graduation. Ito ang apat na main subjects na kailangan mong paghandaan:

  1. Mathematics
  2. Hydraulics
  3. Surveying
  4. Design and construction

Para sa kumpletong listahan ng topics under each subject area, pwede mong basahin ang exam syllabi na makikita sa PRC website.

What are the requirements for the Civil Engineering Licensure Exam?

Lucky for you, the majority of the application process is done online. However, there are still paperworks that need to be done. Ilan sa mga documents na kailangan mong ipasa ay ang mga sumusunod:

  • NSO / PSA Birth Certificate
  • NSO / PSA Marriage Contract (for married female applicants)
  • Transcript of Records with scanned picture and Remarks "For Board Examination Purposes"
  • Valid NBI Clearance (for first timers and repeaters)
  • Two (2) Certificates of Good Moral Character from any 2 of the following:
    • Barangay
    • Church
    • School
    • Employer

When is the next Civil Engineering Licensure Exam?

The Civil Engineering Licensure exam is conducted twice a year nationwide, usually in the months of May and November. Those who are willing to take the test abroad can also take the exam through the Special Professional Licensure Examinations (SPLE) for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW). Narito ang schedule ng CE board this 2022:

Civil engineers have a vital role in nation building. Specifically in building the infrastructure for communities, developing real estate, as well as maintaining the quality and safety of private and public buildings. Kaya naman bilang isang future civil engineer, you need to study hard and take the board exam seriously.

Remember that like any other licensure exam, preparation is the key to passing the CE board. The review and application process can be time-consuming. It’s best for you to prepare your documents and process your application ahead of time to avoid cramming.
